The History of Bella Vista, 1971
For over 60 years, and now proudly 3 generations, the Carabetta Organization has been committed to planning, building and maintaining clean, safe and affordable rental properties throughout New England. With a special dedication to the senior community, in 1971 construction began on a hill crest over looking the river and the city of New Haven. The site was named Bella Vista for its “beautiful views”. The plans were extensive and considered New Haven’s largest senior community project, with over 1,400 apartments, including on-site conveniences from medical offices and banking, to a pharmacy and food store.
With the support of the city of New Haven, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and many, many hard working employees and contractors, by November of 1972 the first building was completed. Within just 6 weeks the entire building was filled and by 1979 the entire project was completed. Some of the original tenants still reside at Bella Vista nearly 40 years later.
